BUD Cargo City opens in Hungary’s capital
BUD Cargo City, the air cargo handling center of Budapest Airport, has officially begun its operation, the airport announced here on Tuesday.
“The first dedicated cargo flight has arrived, a Boeing 747 giant aircraft, and BUD Cargo City is now operational at Ferenc Liszt International Airport,” the airport said in a statement.
“The world-class logistics hub, one of the largest airport development projects in recent years, is now operating as a gateway for air freight in central and eastern Europe,” the statement read.
The facility includes a 21,200 square meter warehouse and office space and an 11,650 square meter forwarding facility, with a huge 32,000 square meter traffic hall. Up to two Boeing 747-8F aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of 440 tons can be served simultaneously in the foreground.

The opening of BUD Cargo City will increase the cargo handling capacity of Budapest Airport from 150,000 tons to 250,000 tons per year, the airport said.
“Thanks to the BUD Cargo City and the planned further investments, the opportunity is now open to make Budapest Airport and Hungary one of the most important logistics hubs in the central and eastern European region,” the statement concluded.
